Keeping in mind the slogan “Sebai Dharma”, the non-governmental development organization Dumaus was established on January 1, 1989, at the initiative of the local youth community. The main goal of its establishment was to educate and develop 100% of the people and involve the rural poor in income-generating activities.

Since its establishment, Dumaus has been conducting various social and humanitarian activities for the development of the neglected, disadvantaged and poor people of the society.

Microcredit Activities

With the aim of socio-economic development of rural villages, Dumaus has been conducting microcredit activities since October 4, 2015, after being approved by the Microcredit Regulatory Authority (MRA).

Through this program, various income-generating projects are being implemented among the rural poor. Such as:

• Small business management
• Fish farming
• Poultry farming
• Cattle farming
• Agriculture
• Rickshaw and van purchase
• Cottage industry business

Project-based loan assistance has created opportunities for self-employment and economic development of the rural population.

Housing assistance program

With the financing of the Housing Fund of Bangladesh Bank, Dumaus is providing assistance by constructing houses for the rural poor and homeless population. Through this, helpless families are getting the opportunity of safe housing.

Disability development program

With the cooperation of CDD, various training and skill development programs are being implemented to include the disabled population in the mainstream.

Education program

With the financing of the Non-Formal Education Bureau, Dumaus is conducting basic literacy programs. Through this, initiatives have been taken to enlighten the illiterate population with the light of education.

Women and Maternity Support

The maternity allowance program has been implemented with the funding of the Department of Women’s Affairs, which is playing an important role in providing financial support to underprivileged women.

Youth Development and Entrepreneurship Creation

Income-generating programs are being conducted to develop the local youth community as entrepreneurs. As a part of this, the fisheries project is successfully running.

Health and Family Welfare Programs

With the funding of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Dumas is implementing various awareness and service programs related to health, education, maternity, children and population.

Conclusion

Dumaus, as a human welfare development organization, has been making important contributions to improving the quality of life of the rural population for a long time through education, health, microfinance, housing, women’s development and increasing social awareness. The organization will continue to work with the underprivileged people of the society in the future to ensure sustainable development.

“সেবাই ধর্ম” এই শ্লোগানকে সামনে রেখে ১৯৮৯ খ্রিস্টাব্দের ১ জানুয়ারি স্থানীয় যুব সম্প্রদায়ের উদ্যোগে বেসরকারি উন্নয়ন সংস্থা দুমাউস প্রতিষ্ঠিত হয়। প্রতিষ্ঠার মূল লক্ষ্য ছিল শতভাগ মানুষকে শিক্ষিত করে গড়ে তোলা এবং গ্রামীণ হতদরিদ্র জনগোষ্ঠীকে আয়বর্ধক কর্মকাণ্ডের সঙ্গে সম্পৃক্ত করা।

প্রতিষ্ঠালগ্ন থেকেই দুমাউস সমাজের অবহেলিত, সুবিধাবঞ্চিত ও হতদরিদ্র জনগোষ্ঠীর উন্নয়নে বিভিন্ন ধরনের সামাজিক ও মানবিক কার্যক্রম পরিচালনা করে আসছে।

মাইক্রোক্রেডিট কার্যক্রম

গ্রামীণ জনপদের আর্থ-সামাজিক উন্নয়নের লক্ষ্যে মাইক্রোক্রেডিট রেগুলেটরি অথরিটি (এমআরএ) কর্তৃক অনুমোদনপ্রাপ্ত হয়ে ০৪ অক্টোবর ২০১৫ খ্রিস্টাব্দ থেকে দুমাউস ক্ষুদ্রঋণ কার্যক্রম পরিচালনা করছে।

এই কার্যক্রমের মাধ্যমে গ্রামীণ হতদরিদ্র জনগোষ্ঠীর মাঝে বিভিন্ন আয়বর্ধক প্রকল্প বাস্তবায়ন করা হচ্ছে। যেমনঃ

• ক্ষুদ্র ব্যবসা পরিচালনা
• মৎস্য চাষ
• হাঁস-মুরগি পালন
• গবাদি পশু পালন
• কৃষিকাজ
• রিক্সা ও ভ্যান ক্রয়
• কুটির শিল্প ব্যবসা

প্রকল্পভিত্তিক ঋণ সহায়তার মাধ্যমে গ্রামীণ জনগোষ্ঠীর আত্মকর্মসংস্থান ও অর্থনৈতিক উন্নয়নের সুযোগ সৃষ্টি হয়েছে।

গৃহায়ণ সহায়তা কার্যক্রম

বাংলাদেশ ব্যাংকের গৃহায়ণ তহবিলের অর্থায়নে দুমাউস গ্রামীণ হতদরিদ্র ও গৃহহীন জনগোষ্ঠীর জন্য বসতঘর নির্মাণ করে সহায়তা প্রদান করছে। এর মাধ্যমে অসহায় পরিবারগুলো নিরাপদ আবাসনের সুযোগ পাচ্ছে।

প্রতিবন্ধী উন্নয়ন কার্যক্রম

সিডিডি-এর সহযোগিতায় প্রতিবন্ধী জনগোষ্ঠীকে মূল স্রোতধারায় সম্পৃক্ত করার লক্ষ্যে বিভিন্ন প্রশিক্ষণ ও দক্ষতা উন্নয়নমূলক কার্যক্রম বাস্তবায়ন করা হচ্ছে।

শিক্ষা কার্যক্রম

উপানুষ্ঠানিক শিক্ষা ব্যুরোর অর্থায়নে দুমাউস মৌলিক সাক্ষরতা কার্যক্রম পরিচালনা করছে। এর মাধ্যমে নিরক্ষর জনগোষ্ঠীকে শিক্ষার আলোয় আলোকিত করার উদ্যোগ নেওয়া হয়েছে।

নারী ও মাতৃত্ব সহায়তা

মহিলা বিষয়ক অধিদপ্তরের অর্থায়নে মাতৃত্বকালীন ভাতা কার্যক্রম বাস্তবায়ন করা হয়েছে, যা সুবিধাবঞ্চিত নারীদের আর্থিক সহায়তা প্রদানে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ভূমিকা রাখছে।

যুব উন্নয়ন ও উদ্যোক্তা সৃষ্টি

স্থানীয় যুব সম্প্রদায়কে উদ্যোক্তা হিসেবে গড়ে তোলার লক্ষ্যে আয়বর্ধক কার্যক্রম পরিচালিত হচ্ছে। এর অংশ হিসেবে মৎস্য চাষ প্রকল্প সফলতার সঙ্গে চলমান রয়েছে।

স্বাস্থ্য ও পরিবার কল্যাণ কার্যক্রম

স্বাস্থ্য ও পরিবার কল্যাণ মন্ত্রণালয়ের অর্থায়নে দুমাউস স্বাস্থ্য, শিক্ষা, মাতৃত্ব, শিশু ও জনসংখ্যা বিষয়ক বিভিন্ন সচেতনতামূলক ও সেবামূলক কার্যক্রম বাস্তবায়ন করছে।

উপসংহার

দুমাউস একটি মানবকল্যাণমূলক উন্নয়ন সংস্থা হিসেবে দীর্ঘদিন ধরে শিক্ষা, স্বাস্থ্য, ক্ষুদ্রঋণ, গৃহায়ণ, নারী উন্নয়ন ও সামাজিক সচেতনতা বৃদ্ধির মাধ্যমে গ্রামীণ জনগোষ্ঠীর জীবনমান উন্নয়নে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ অবদান রেখে চলেছে। ভবিষ্যতেও সমাজের সুবিধাবঞ্চিত মানুষের পাশে থেকে টেকসই উন্নয়ন নিশ্চিত করার লক্ষ্যে প্রতিষ্ঠানটি কাজ করে যাবে।
